Union County High School seniors Lilly Combs and Tristyn Southerland get to continue playing beside each other on the volleyball court as both have accepted offers to play for Trinity Baptist College in Jacksonville.

“I’m really excited,” Southerland—an outside hitter and setter—said following a May 14 scholarship-signing ceremony. “Just to be able to keep playing volleyball is unreal. Most people don’t get to do that.”

Combs, who is a setter, described the opportunity as “exciting and overwhelming,” and added she couldn’t be happier to be taking this step with Southerland.

“It’s great. I love it,” Combs said. “I’m so excited to be doing this with one of my really good friends.”

Union volleyball coach Trudy Andrews said it’s a good feeling to see two players be rewarded for the hard work they’ve put forth over a number of years.

“Their grins are huge, and they can’t stop smiling because they know that they’re dreams are coming true. They have those opportunities ahead of them now. They did it. They made it happen.”
