The defense gave up a long scoring play, while the offense squandered two potential scoring opportunities in the Bradford High School football team’s 7-0 preseason loss to visiting Buchholz in a kickoff classic on Aug. 23.

Buchholz scored on its first possession when Quinlan Washington got behind the secondary to haul in a 45-yard touchdown pass from Jackson White. The PAT put the Bobcats up 7-0 at the 8:24 mark of the first quarter.

Though Bradford head coach Steve Reynolds was disappointed in his offense not finishing drives successfully, such as scoring after a 43-yard run by quarterback Jacob Luke resulted in a first-and-goal at the 5, he was nevertheless pleased with the team effort against a Class 7A school.

“The bottom line is the kids worked hard and played hard,” he said. “I’m proud of them.”

Luke and running back Tra’von Thomas each gained approximately 40 yards on the ground, while Luke completed five passes for 48 yards. Kenny Dinkins had three receptions for 35 yards.

Linebacker Cody Bias had a fumble recovery.

Neither team threatened to score in the second half, which was played with a mixture of backup varsity players and junior varsity players.
