Bradford High School scored its first points of the season, but visiting Baker County took advantage of three turnovers and big plays in the second half in handing the Tornadoes a 43-7 defeat on Sept. 5.

Baker County was the second straight Class 5A opponent Bradford (0-2) has faced after opening the season against Suwannee.

“Right now, this program is not at the level of the teams we’ve played the past couple of weeks in a lot of ways,” Bradford head coach Corey Green said, “but these kid and this coaching staff have a goal to make sure we end up (at that level).”

Bradford quarterback Jacob Luke scored on a 3-yard touchdown run, with Jud Hicks adding the PAT to pull the Tornadoes to within 8-7 early in the second quarter.

The Wildcats (1-1) led 22-7 at the half, getting two touchdown runs from Vic Givens.

In the second half, Baker quarterback Jacob Carter accounted for two scores, running 55 yards for one touchdown and throwing 28 yards for another.

Bradford finished with 123 yards—all on the ground. Luke rushed for 39 yards on 16 carries, while Aundre Carter had 37 yards on seven carries.

The Tornadoes’ Xavien Jenkins had an interception.

Bradford travels to play Class 3A Fort White on Friday, Sept. 12, at 7:30 p.m.
