Staff Writer

Despite watching their opponent hit four home runs, the Bradford High School Tornadoes outlasted P.K. Yonge 13-9 for a win in the District 5-4A softball tournament on April 17 in Starke.

Lainie Rodgers hit a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth that would prove to be the eventual difference, putting Bradford up 10-5. Taylor Cruce added a two-run homer for good measure in the next at-bat.

In all, the Tornadoes (20-4) scored nine runs in the fifth inning, which featured a bases-loaded single by Sabina Watson that scored one run and gave Bradford its first lead of the game at 6-5.

Watson, Megan Farmer and Shelby Wilkison each drove in two runs, while Cruce and Rodgers each drove in three.
Rodgers and Wilkison each homered in a game that featured seven long balls in all.

Bradford will play Santa Fe—an 8-6 winner over Keystone Heights—for the championship on Saturday, April 18, at 4 p.m.
