Darion Robinson scored four touchdowns for the Union County High School football team in a 56-18 win over visiting Eagle’s View Academy on Nov. 7.

The Tigers (9-1) rushed for 398 yards, with Robinson gaining 180 on 12 carries. Taz Worrell added 75 yards and a touchdown on nine carries.

It was one of those games in which Union’s starters started coming out of the game after the team’s first offensive series as Eagle’s View (0-9) was simply outmanned. Geordyn Green put the Tigers on the board first with a 70-yard punt return, and teammate Princeton Alexander would’ve put Union up by two scores on another 70-yard punt return if not for a penalty for an illegal block.

A quick three-play, 63-yard scoring drive—sparked by Phillip Lillie’s 33-yard run and capped by Dairon Alexander’s 14-yard touchdown run—was followed by playing time for everybody. Alexander, himself, was one of many players in the game who played on the junior varsity team this season.

Union head coach Ronny Pruitt said it was the type of game his team needed as it prepares to play a Class 1A regional semifinal game on Friday, Nov. 15, at Crescent City.

“We needed that game,” Pruitt said. “We had a lot of kids who were freshly back off of injuries. You don’t want to take any chances.

“Like I told them, our season starts now. Everything we’ve done, it doesn’t matter at this point. If we don’t win, we go home.”

Robinson finished with touchdowns of 6, 10, 10 and 19 yards, while Worrell’s score covered 8 yards. Quarterback Ty Cook, who was 2-of-5 for 55 yards, threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to Spencer Williams.

Starting quarterback Caleb Cox completed his lone pass attempt for 16 yards, while backup quarterback Casey Driggers attempted one pass as well, which was good for a 13-yard completion.

In all, the Tigers amassed 482 yards. Eagle’s View finished with 158 yards after being held to 35 in the first half.

Defensively, Worrell and Zach Lee each had an interception for the Tigers.
