The spokesperson for the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said a man in his 70s and a teenager were both injured when a shotgun owned by the older man discharged in Keystone Heights’ Highridge Estates neighborhood.

Mary Justino, public information officer with the sheriff’s office said the man confronted a trio of male teens at his storage shed in the 6300 block of Swarthmore Drive around 4 p.m. Wednesday.  The property owner came to the scene with a shotgun.  In the course of the altercation, the firearm went off, injuring the man in the hand.  Emergency medical workers treated him at the scene.  The blast also seriously injured one of the teenagers, who was flown to Shands UF.

Justino said the investigation is ongoing, and that crime scene processing has been hampered by excessive rainfall.
