The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said it arrested five people while executing a search warrant on Melrose’s South Street, April 4.

According to a sheriff’s press release, deputies found less than 20 grams of marijuana, eight marijuana plants, various pipes, straws and ammunition in the home. They also found prescription pills, which they identified as schedule II controlled substances.

The deputies arrested William Fred Bennett Jr., 25,  for trafficking in opium or a derivative, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.  The sheriff’s office also booked him  on an arrest warrant for the sale of a schedule II substance.  Bond was set at $19,016.

Shawn Albert Bennett, 24, was arrested for possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana and a probation violation. Bond was set at $1,406.

Dana Charles Hoffman, 54, was arrested on  a warrant for selling a schedule II substance. Bond was set at $10,000.

Wendy Nichole Wheeler, 30, was arrested for outstanding warrants in Putnam and Alachua Counties on a probation violation and failure to appear. She is being held without bond.

Michael David Taylor, 33, was arrested for possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana. Bond was set at $504.

The charges against the defendants are not proven and they are presumed innocent until adjudicated guilty by a court.
