Lawtey chief taken to ER

Bradford emergency medical workers transported Lawtey Police Chief Millard “Butch” Jordan to the Shands UF emergency department Thursday night.

According to Lawtey Police Officer Nathan Blom, a family member called 911 after the chief had difficulty breathing. Blom arrived at Jordan’s home on Grove Street soon thereafter. Bradford deputies, Lawtey Fire Rescue and Bradford Emergency Medical Services arrived at the home around 8:15.

A bridge that was out on Grove Street may have complicated the response. According to radio traffic, units had to detour on Adams Street to get to Jordan’s house.

Blom declined to comment on the response time or the bridge. He followed the ambulance to Gainesville with Bradford deputies, Starke police and Alachua deputies closing intersections along the route.

About 30 minutes after Jordan arrived at the hospital, Blom declined to comment on the chief’s condition, saying Shands personnel were evaluating him.
