Keystone Heights man guilty of sexually abusing two children

Special to the Monitor

The State Attorney’s Office in Green Cove Springs said Leo Charles Bettey Jr. of Keystone Heights was convicted March 8 on four counts of sexual battery.

According to the State Attorney’s office, Bettey abused two young girls, ages five and seven, between 2010 and 2012. Authorities were alerted to the abuse after one of the victims told her mother that Bettey inappropriately touched her.

“This defendant faces spending the rest of his life in prison because of what he did to our two young victims,” said Assistant State Attorney T.J. Bryant. “With this conviction, the defendant will not be able to hurt another child.”

Bettey will be sentenced March 21.
