Keystone advances in district softball tournament

Staff Writer

A game that was supposed to have been played on April 13 is finally in the books as the Keystone Heights High School softball team defeated Interlachen 7-4 in a District 5-4A quarterfinal game on April 16.

Weather forced the game to be postponed three times.

Bradford High School is hosting the tournament, but the Keystone-Interlachen game was played in Keystone.

Taylor Morris drove in two runs with a single as part of a two-run sixth inning that put the Indians up 7-3.

Molly Crawford, Cheyenne Helton, Bailey Story and Breanna Wells each drove in one run.

Ashleigh Jennings was the leading hitter, going 3-for-4.

Brittany Schellpeper threw a complete game, pitching a shutout through the first five innings and allowing a total of nine hits.

Keystone (15-9-1) will play a semifinal game against second seed Santa Fe on Friday, April 17, at 5 p.m. in Starke.

The Indians are the tournament’s third seed.
