Keystone Heights High School allowed just the second goal this season against district competition, but it proved to be enough for the Eastside Rams, who defeated the Indians 1-0 in the District 5-2A championship match on Jan. 24 in Gainesville.

The two teams played a scoreless first half, but the Rams (18-6) got a goal from Tyler Miller-Jones in the 47th minute.

It was the first time Keystone had been shut out.

“They definitely had a great game plan,” Keystone head coach Trevor Waters said. “They got us off our short passing game. They were very aggressive. The refs let them play.

“We didn’t make those one or two plays that we normally make.”

The Indians (21-3-2) will keep playing, though. They will travel to play Mount Dora (13-8-2) in a regional quarterfinal match on Thursday, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m. If Keystone wins, it will travel to play the winner of the quarterfinal match against Eastside and Trinity Catholic (4-17-1) on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 7 p.m.

“We’ll win that one, and we’ll see (Eastside) again,” Waters said.
