Bradford and Clay County deputies looked for a burglar who wounded a homeowner Wednesday night. Tracking dogs from UCI and a helicopter from the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office also joined the manhunt.

According to Capt. Brad Smith of the Bradford County Sheriff’s Office, the homeowner interrupted the attempted theft around 7:20 p.m. at a house on S.R. 16, near the Clay, Bradford County line. The intruder inflicted a non-life threatening wound to the resident’s leg. A hospital treated and released the victim Wednesday.

Smith said the burglar was a white male wearing a black ski mask, a long sleeve shirt and dark-colored long pants.

He added that around 11 p.m., deputies called off the search for the assailant with negative results.
