Here is the official statement released at 2:00 p.m. on 8/26/13 by the Union County Sheriff’s Office:

On Saturday, August 24, 2013 around 9:00AM, Hubert Allen Jr. B/M went on a shooting spree throughout Union County, FL.   Allen, a longtime employee of Pritchett Trucking, Inc., went to a location owned by Mr. Marvin Pritchett off of County Road 18A and encountered a former co-worker, Rolando Gonzalez-Delgado, 28 years of age and killed him with multiple gunshot wounds. Then just a short distance away, fired twice and killed his former employer and owner of Pritchett Trucking Inc., Mr. Marvin Pritchett, 80 years of age.

Just minutes later, Allen confronted another former employee driving a farm tractor on Union County CR.18A.  Allen pulled over and exchanged words with a Mr. Lewis Mabrey Jr., 66 years of age and fired one shot from a small bore shotgun striking Mr. Mabrey in the left arm and side. Mabrey was rushed by Union County Emergency Medical Services to ShandsUF, where he underwent surgery for a broken arm and other injuries.  Mabrey is considered in good condition and hopes to be released very soon.

Shortly after, Hubert Allen went to Pritchett Trucking  Company located at 1050 S.E. 6th Street in Lake Butler and shot the third co-worker, Mr. David Griffis, 44 years of age in the stomach.  Griffis was rushed to ShandsUF Trauma Unit for immediate surgery.  Griffis remains in critical conditions and has numerous surgeries.  LifeSouth Community Blood Center set up throughout the day on Sunday and Monday in various locations in Lake Butler to receive blood donations for Griffis.

The single suspect, Hubert Allen Jr., 72 years of age, returned to his residence off of S.E. 6th Avenue, Lake Butler where he took his own life.  Allen was a long time employee of Pritchett Trucking.

Investigators have interviewed numerous Pritchett Trucking employees and witnesses as to the reason behind the shootings. The Union County Sheriff’s Office called in Investigators from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to assist with the five different crime scenes.  Other agencies assisting included: Florida Department of Corrections, Union County Emergency Medical Services, Union County Sheriff’s Emergency Management, Baker County Sheriff’s Office, Bradford County Sheriff’s Office, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Offices, 8th Circuit Medical Examiner’s Office, Florida Highway Patrol and Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office believes that Allen acted alone in these shootings.  Investigations will continue as to the cause and reason for this heinous crime.  Further investigation revealed by a hand written note at Allen’s house that this was a premeditated event targeting these individuals.  The note did not reveal a motive.  Law Enforcement recovered a .22 cal. rifle and a .410 small bore shotgun and an unfired .32 cal. handgun.

There has been and continues to be prayer vigils throughout the community.

Services for Mr. Marvin Pritchett will be at First Christian Church of Lake Butler on Friday, August 30, 2013 at 2:00PM.
