Kenny Dinkins turned in a spectacular night for the Bradford High School varsity football team, but his effort wasn’t enough to overcome Fort White and running back Tavaris Williams in a 37-27 loss in Starke on Sept. 13.

Dinkins caught six passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns. Plus, he had an interception on defense and returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown that pulled the Tornadoes (0-2) to within 30-27 with 6:55 to play.

Fort White (2-0) answered with a 76-yard drive that was capped by Williams’ 20-yard touchdown run with 3:08 left on the clock.

Williams finished with four touchdowns and more than 250 yards.

“We were in it until the very, very end,” Bradford head coach Steve Reynolds said. “We were down three in the fourth. That’s not bad, but we’ve just got to finish ball games. We’ve got to get them ready to finish ball games. That’s our fault as coaches. We’ve got to push them to get ready for the fourth quarter.”

Chris Barron had a big night receiving for Bradford, catching four passes for 72 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Jacob Luke was 12-of-28 for 247 yards.

Bradford running back Jarvis DeSue had 66 yards on 14 carries.

Defensive lineman Todderick Reed had a fumble recovery for the Tornadoes, who will host their first District 5-4A game on Friday, Sept. 20, against the Villages at 7:30 p.m.
