State Senator Rob Bradley was honored as an honorary Guardian ad Litem at the annual GAL Volunteer Recognition Dinner held in Gainesville on May 15th.

Bradley, who was the featured speaker at the event, was recognized for his work during the recent legislative session, supporting the program as chairman of the Senate’s appropriations committee which funds court services.

“It was genuinely a surprise, and a wonderful one, to be recognized in this manner,” said Bradley.  “I’m pleased that the Legislature was able to make a significant increase to the funding for the guardian ad litem program.  The real heroes at this event, however, were the guardian volunteers in attendance.  Their advocacy for these children truly changes lives.”

The Guardian ad Litem program is a network of court-appointed volunteers who protect the rights and advocate for the best interests of children involved in court proceedings.

Alan Abramowitz, Executive Director of the Florida Guardian ad Litem Program, presented the award to Bradley.

He said, “Each day, GAL volunteers help shape the future and create hope for the children of Florida who have been neglected and abused. Their work is a pursuit of the heart.  There are many people in the community who work tirelessly for Florida’s children; their work for children is also a pursuit of the heart. The Guardian ad Litem Program recognizes Senator Rob Bradley as an Honorary Guardian ad Litem with gratitude for his contribution to children.”

The volunteer recognition dinner is hosted annually by the Eighth Judicial Circuit Guardian Foundation.

Susan Faulkner O’Neal, Chair of the Foundation, commented, “the efforts of Senator Bradley are a tribute to his commitment and support of the Guardian ad Litem program and provides confirmation of his support of the mission of the Guardian Foundation, Inc.”
