Dollar store opponents organize petition drive, cash mob

Opponents to a proposed Dollar General store in Melrose, Saturday afternoon, collected petition signatures and encouraged locals to patronize Melrose-based, Williamson's Food Store. Opponents of the 12,000-unit discount chain said Melrose residents prefer locally-owned businesses to national, big box retailers. The Putnam County commission is scheduled to vote, May 12, on rezoning land across SR 21 from the grocery, that could pave the way for a Dollar General outlet.
