Couple severely injured in motorcycle accident

A man and a woman were both critically injured Sunday night when the motorcycle they were riding collided with a car on northwest C.R. 235 in Bradford County.

Terry McCarthy, Chief of the Heilbron Springs Volunteer Fire Department, said that in addition to the motorcycle riders, the two passengers in the car were also transported to a hospital with minor injuries.

Soon after the crash, FHP Trooper A.L. Cummings said the car was traveling east on C.R. 235 toward C.R. 229 and, he thought the motorcycle was traveling in the opposite direction. He added, however, that the investigation was ongoing.

Bradford and Union EMS workers, at first, planned to take the two critically injured victims to Shands Starke where a ShandsCair helicopter was to then transport them to Gainesville. However, the Helicopter cancelled due to bad weather.

On his Twitter account, Bradford County Sheriff Gordon Smith identified the motorcycle riders as Barry Carlton and Christy Goodkind.
