St. Johns River State College said it will use a $1 million U.S. Department of Labor grant to equip unemployed workers with information technology skills.

The grant is part of the Trade Adjustment Act, legislation intended to retrain workers who lost their jobs to foreign competition.

SJRSC Vice President for Workforce Development Anna Lebecsh said the school will use the money to create one-year certificate programs that will lead to industry certification.

She added that the school is considering certificates in geographic information systems, help desk services, A+, computer security, Linux, networking, digital forensics and robotics and simulation.
