The U.S. Department of Homeland Security awarded Clay County a $2,170,725 grant to fund 21 firefighting positions. The award covers two years and the county’s estimated costs for the additional personnel is $124,488.

Homeland Security awarded the money under its Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Program.   It allocated $320 million for the program in 2013.
