Clay County Commissioners, during their Oct. 8 meeting, paid tribute to a 1982 federal law that declared 1983 as the Year of the Bible.

Commissioner Diane Hutchings read the proclamation which said the Clay commission recognized the unique contribution the Bible has made in shaping the United States.

The county proclamation added that the 1982 federal law recognized that religious convictions and biblical teachings inspired the concepts of civil government contained in the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution.

Commissioners also said in the document that the history of the United States “clearly illustrates the value of voluntarily applying the belief in a higher authority, moral standards, honesty, integrity and equality in the lives of individuals, families and societies.
