Clay commissioner appointed to college board

Gov. Rick Scott appointed Clay County Commissioner Wendell D. Davis to the St. Johns River State College board of trustees in June.

Davis replaces State Sen. Rob Bradley as one of two Clay County representatives on the board.  The other Clay representative is Ron Coleman.

Putnam and St. Johns counties also have two trustees each on the board.

Davis, 70, of Fleming Island, said he was honored by the governor’s appointment.

“I look forward to serving with this distinguished group,” he said.

Davis is the senior vice president of Watson Realty Corp. He served in the U. S. Army from 1964-1966, and in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1966-1987. Davis received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Florida.

Scott also  reappointed Mary Ellen Webb to the board of trustees.

Webb, 53, of St. Augustine is the retail market manager for TD Bank. She was reappointed for a term ending May 31, 2017.

St. Johns River State College serves approximately 11,000 students in Clay, Putnam and St. Johns counties and offers three baccalaureate degrees, more than 40 associate in science degrees, college credit and vocational certificates, in addition to offering the associate in arts degree.
