Buckles sworn in as Putnam school board member

4 corners report: news from Melrose and the surrounding counties of Alachua, Bradford, Clay and Putnam

A former Putnam County school superintendent who lost a bid for the school board in 2012 will now occupy the seat he earlier lost.

David Buckles, who led the school district as superintendent for 12 years, lost his quest to retain the district’s top job in 2008.

In 2012 he ran for the District 2 school board seat, but lost the Republican primary to Lisa Parsons by 162 votes. Parsons later resigned from the board in order to take the principal position at Edge Charter School.

Gov. Rick Scott appointed Buckles to the board Oct. 1.
