Bradford High School senior softball player Jaci Atkinson received a scholarship to play at Indian River State College, signing her paperwork during a Jan. 30 ceremony in the BHS media center.

“I’m just really excited,” Atkinson said.

On why she feels Indian River is the right place for her, Atkinson said, “I love the environment that’s there. I love the campus, I like the housing and I love coach Dale (Atkinson). He’s just a great person. I love that they have great academics and a great softball program.”

Bradford head coach Daniel Davis said Atkinson, who plays in the outfield, has been able to put pressure on opponents because of her speed—an attribute that will benefit the Tornadoes once again and one that should be of great benefit once she gets to Indian River.

“She’s going to lead off for us,” Davis said. “We’re expecting her to do big things for us. I also think she’ll be able to utilize her speed right away at Indian River in some type of role. If you’ve got speed, they’ll find a way to use you. I think that’s going to be a big help for her.”
