Harli Phillips broke open a close game with a three-run double in the top of the sixth inning as the Bradford High School softball team improved to 3-0 in District 5-4A with a 6-1 win over host Keystone Heights on Feb. 27.
The Tornadoes (7-0) led just 2-1, but loaded the bases in the sixth, with Taylor Cruce drawing a walk, Shelby Wilkison hitting a single and Sabina Watson reaching on an error. That set the stage for Phillips’ bases-clearing hit, which put Bradford up 5-1.
Cruce and Jordan Davis went 3-for-3 and 3-for-4, respectively, but the rest of the Bradford lineup managed just four hits against Keystone pitcher Megan Moncrief, who had eight strikeouts.
Cruce, Megan Farmer and Lainie Rodgers each had an RBI for Bradford.
Keystone, which fell to 3-2 in the district, scored its lone run in the fifth. Bailey Story was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, followed by Skylar Rollins reaching on an error. Molly Crawford’s single loaded the bases, with Taylor Morris drawing a walk to force a run home.
The Indians had just four hits against Bradford pitcher Shelby Wilkison, who had eight strikeouts.
