The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office collected prescription medications from the public during the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, April 27.

Lt. Todd Kelly said in a press release that in the five previous take-back events, law enforcement agencies, in cooperation with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, collected over 2  million pounds of prescription medications.

“In Alachua County alone,” he wrote, “we collected 267.2 pounds.”

“This was a great opportunity for those who missed previous events,” he added, “or who have accumulated unwanted or unused drugs to safely dispose of those medications.”
