12 schools compete in annual KHHS Invitational

Keystone Heights High School welcomed 11 other schools to the 15th annual KHHS Girls’ Weightlifting Invitational, which saw Bradford High School earn six medals and the host school earning one.

Gainesville, which was last year’s runner-up, topped the team standings with a score of 63. Ocala Vanguard, which placed third last year, was this year’s runner-up with a score of 40.

Individuals earned medals for placing first through sixth. Bradford, which was fifth in the team standings with a score of 19, had two lifters earn second-place medals. Luci Hamm was the runner-up in the 101 class with a 205-pound total (100 bench, 105 clean and jerk), while Christin Hopkins was the runner-up in the 119 class with a 235 total (110, 125).

Karen Clark and Autumn Rodgers each placed fourth for the Tornadoes, with Clark compiling a 210 total (100, 110) in the 110 class and Rodgers compiling a 225 total (90, 135) in the 129 class.

Haley Sweat earned a fifth-place medal for Bradford with a 280 total (135, 145) in the unlimited class, while Jordan Davis earned a sixth-place medal in the 139 class with a 225 total (110, 115).

Keystone’s medal came courtesy of Rachael “Shelly” Schammert, who placed fifth in the 183 class with a 260 total (130, 130).
